Night Class: Nancy

Hey there boys and girls! Time for another spotlight, this time on Nancy, the Ceramics teacher.

Nancy started out as a doodle I made a number of years back. This is the very first full body picture I did of her, actually. I was just plowing my way through a series of characters, trying to fall in love with one, to no avail. For a long time, I gave up, and put everything away in a folder.

However, while I was trying to develop night class, I took a look through the folder again. The only character I pulled from it was Nancy, who was then named Carol. It's most likely the weird style I drew her in, but I had to have her in Night Class, one way or another. So, a few redo's later, I came up with this:

Very few changes to be sure, but a couple were made. For one, she has a tail. I changed the chest to not be so angular and abstract looking, and gave her closer to an anatomically correct body. I kept the elongated neck and sharp fingers though, to still give the appearance of her being a monster of some sort, though it's not entirely apparent at first.

Originally, she was going to be the swamp creature, but I wasn't entirely sold on the idea, so I went through my backlog of monsters, and settled on Gorgon. I'm putting my own little spin on the idea of it, so that she'll be allowed to teach, but I think that you'll all like her nonetheless. And of course, teach what you know: Nancy is the ceramics teacher.

Enjoy!

Night Class: Headshots and Hannah

Hey guys! I know I promised an update today, so I figured I'd let you in on most of the cast of my new and upcoming webcomic, Night Class! (Yes, I shortened the name) These are a series of quick doodles I did, to show you the kind of style you can look forward to seeing in the finished product. As well, I've decided to do a small profile every once in a while of some of the characters as I come to drawing more fleshed out versions of them, when I'm not working diligently. You folks have already seen profiles for both Isaac Stanley and Edgar, so next up on the list is Hannah!

Hannah isn't featured up in the busts up top, mostly because I wanted to get the more fleshed out versions of her done for this post. Originally, Hannah was going to star in a comic entitled "Stereotypes" that I was working on, but scrapped because I didn't truly like the content. The idea was that there were a series of characters that we would flash back to every once in a while to see them in their awkward teenage years, and now that they had grown up. Hannah was originally going to be a sort of emo/metal chick that didn't like or talk to anyone, save for the small clique that she had set up. Fast forwarding a few years, this was the "current" Hannah, who worked as a vets assistant and receptionist at an animal shelter. Originally, Icarus was in this comic too, but we'll get into him next time.

Keeping her in mind for Night Class, I really liked the way I made her design, but wasn't entirely happy with it. So a few minor changes later, Hannah became this:

This is Hannah in her current state. I tightened up her face a little bit and moved a lot of her features together vertically, and spread the eyes apart a bit more. Also, I took away the waves in the back of her hair, so that it was a bit more angular. I changed the spaghetti top to white, which is a slight contrast what she is, and gives the reader a bit more of a sense of her personality, I like to think. I also took Buff, from my other idea, "Shellter", and gave him to her as a pet. I think he'll be happy here, and maybe in the future when Shellter starts, I can make references here and there to this comic. That's assuming any of you read this one to begin with!

Hannah is a student in Night Class, a vampire and daughter to the womens study teacher, Gilead. I've kept the idea that she works in an animal shelter, only as a 24 hour receptionist, and not a vets assistant. She's got a pretty chipper attitude overall, and I think that once my story telling gets up to speed, you'll really like her!

Let me know what you guys think!

Horrors of Night Class

Hey there guys! Haven't updated for a bit, so I thought I'd give you a sample of some stuff I've been working on.

Currently, I'm working on two comics. One of which is called The Horrors of Night Class. In it, I feature a ton of classic monsters, going through a rehab period teaching night school. Below are two of those characters.

This is Prof. Isaac Stanley, whom those of you who have been following me have probably seen the first sketch of. He's a wolfman, and thanks to a mishap with the court system that'll be explained later on, he's stuck as a werewolf. The good news is that he retains his humanity, and is fairly well versed. Therefore, he teaches English at the nightschool.

This here is Edgar. Risen from his funeral, there was a rather large misunderstanding that he was out to eat others, ignoring the fact that he doesn't have a lower jaw. On the run for the past 80 years, the justice system finally caught him. When they found out about his sentience, though, instead of executing him on the spot, he was tried and sentenced to community service equal to his "reign of terror". Edgar currently teaches American History at the Night School.

I'll post a few more characters as I get them full of lines. I was going to shade these, and I might go back and do that, but I wanted to be sure I got these up in the meantime, so you didn't think I had up and left on you.

EDIT: Just realized I forgot to draw in Isaac's tail, so that shading thing will probably happen sooner rather than later.

More work sketches

So, I have a few work sketches lined up, such as a pile of burning electronics ala Fahrenheit 451, and a ninja in a porta-potty (wat), but my friend Alexcia has requested of me, a gnome! She was as kind to give me a short description of gnomes, their intentions, and what they look like. She even drew me a little picture, which I have posted to my monitor right now! So, she got bumped to the top of the list. Alexcia, here is your Gnome:

Isn't he just ADORABLE.

EDIT: Just noticed not two seconds after I posted this that I misspelled BOTH the words "mischief" AND "mayhem". I can't change it now though, I'm too far into the system. We'll just have to overlook this glaring and embarrassing mistake, together.

Sketches from Work 4

Last work sketch that was requested of me. This one was from James, who requested "His dog thumbing it's nose at chicken meatloaf". I wasn't really sure thumbing it's nose would get the point across, so I tried to do something a little differently:

It's midnight on a Sunday night, and I think it's funny. So sue me!

This has been fun, and I'd like to do more work sketches, if possible. If you have a suggestion, feel free to request it of me!

Talk to you all soon!
